Named after the Ancient Greek City of Corinth, The Corinth Side Table is a study in the elemental beauty of Euclidean Geometry and Classical Greek Architecture.
The Corinth Side Table is formed from a Triacontadigon (32 sided polygon) sitting on a Hexadecagon (16 sided polygon) which in turn sits on an Octagon (8 sided polygon), all three polygons then sit on a Square (4 sided polygon).
Conceived as a sculptural entity so that within a landscape or interior the elegance of the table's proportions and the effects of light on its surfaces can be viewed from all angles. The ever-changing light of the day casts graded shadows and changes in colour across the sculpted form of the table.
The Corinth Side Table is handmade in the UK by a master woodworker using traditional cabinetry making techniques.
From light to dark each layer of the table comprises a hardwood of different colour and character, the layers resembling the structure of rock strata. The lightest top strata is Rippled American Soft Maple, the ripples in the grain pattern creating a three dimensional effect. The next strata is European White Beech, followed by American Black Walnut. The bottom strata is sub-fossilized 5,000 year old bog oak from the Cambridgeshire Fens near Ely in the UK.
